More than destination, the plan (V): where to travel in October

As we told you a few weeks ago, the places we visited not only show us their most emblematic monuments, but also, they can give us an extra if our trip coincides with a special event. That’s why, like every month, we propose ten destinations for you if you plan a trip during October and do not decide where. In this selection you have a lot to choose from: culture, festivals, concerts, sports or architecture are just some examples.

Oktoberfest, Germany
Germany is our first proposal. Since mid-September numerous German cities have hosted this famous festival in which beer and food flood the shops. It all started when on October 12, 1810, Prince Ludwig I of Bavaria and Teresa of Saxony and Hildburghausen married in Munich and the celebration lasted five days. Since then, this festival has spread to other German cities, and even worldwide. So do not worry if you do not have the opportunity to travel to Germany to attend the most famous beer festival.

Chicago: sport, parades and architecture
October is the perfect month to get to know Chicago because of its wide range of plans. To begin with, on October 7th, the Chicago Marathon is held, one of the six most important at the international level and in which more than 40,000 athletes participate. One day later, on October 8, floats, bands and dozens of performances march on Columbus Drive to mark the Columbus Day Parade. To finish convincing you, the Open House initiative is perfect for architecture lovers, since for 48 hours more than 200 private buildings open their doors wide open.

Festival of Lights, Berlin
If you plan to visit Berlin, October can be a good occasion. The main tourist attractions are illuminated for nine days (from 5 to 14) giving off beautiful colors. The German capital takes advantage of the Festival of Lights to tell stories, draw attention to the most unknown corners, present monuments and transmit messages.

Mercado Cervantino, Alcalá de Henares
Taking advantage of the Cervantino Market celebration can be a good excuse to travel through Spain and learn more about its history. From October 8 to 14, Alcalá de Henares pays homage to Miguel de Cervantes, the author of El Quijote. Each day of the festival, Don Quixote and Sancho lead an opening parade accompanied by musicians, the falconer and a snake tamer. The parties take place in the historic center of the city, where music, dance, theater, parades, knights, craft workshops and games compete to get attention.

The “Fiestas del Pilar´´, Zaragoza
Continuing through Spain, Zaragoza is preparing to receive its patron saint festivities. From 6 to 14 October, the Fiestas del Pilar, in honor of the patron saint of the city, brings together all those eager to enjoy the activities, concerts and scheduled events. The main ones are repeated every year, like the Proclamation, the Offering, the fireworks or the giants and big heads, but for this year they have also programmed more than 200 concerts.

Beer Festival of Poperinge, Belgium
Our sixth proposal is in Belgium, this time in Poperinge (Belgium). If you have not had enough beer with the Oktoberfest, the Poperinge Beer Festival is an annual festival that the Flemish city hosts at the end of the month and in which every year new beers are introduced to the market.

Valencia, city of varieties
Valencia is also a very good option for the undecided. On the one hand, until the 12th you can enjoy free of charge the concert cycle “A lake of concerts”, on the north lake of the Hemisfèric. On the other, the cinema is present through the Festival Mostra Viva del Mediterrani, in which a dozen spaces will host more than eighty screenings and some thirty cultural activities. Valencia does not lack sport either: the Valencia Half Marathon inaugurates this October 28 a new route in its eighteenth edition.

Festival of Muscadet Nouveau, France
The Festival of Muscadet Nouveau in Saint-Fiacre (France) is different, but really curious. During the second Sunday of October the harvest of grapes begins with a party that arouses great expectation among wine lovers.

Halloween
Halloween is already an international party, and therefore, if you plan to be in Alicante, the IV Terror Festival of Alicante is a good option. With its Hallowfest party, set this year in a circus, they promise a lot of fear, fun and activities for all audiences.

Festival of lights of Bombai
The last destination that we propose is Bombai for its festival of lights. At the end of the month he receives the Diwali, the largest festival in India that celebrates the end of the harvest season and welcomes the new financial year. Thousands of oil lamps, fireworks, street banquets, colorful flowers and sand in the form of lotus flower adorn the city.

October is one of the best months to travel because after the summer the prices go down, but the temperatures are still pleasant. So, if you have already chosen your destination, do not worry about anything else, because, wherever you go, at WePark we take care of your car 24 hours a day.
